The LGBT Humanist Council, a project of the American Humanist Association, is a forum for LGBT humanists from across the country to exchange ideas on local organizing, find support in coming out as LGBT (and a humanist), and to speak out with once voice on issues of concern to the LGBT-humanist community!

About Us

The LGBT Humanist Council of the American Humanist Association is committed to advancing equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families. The Council seeks to improve the lives of LGBT individuals though education, public service and outreach and serve as a resource for members of the American Humanist Association, the greater freethought community, and the public on LGBT issues.

Our Issues

The AHA is currently working in coalition with other LGBT rights organizations in Washington DC to:

  • Oppose the federal ban on same-sex marriage
  • Support equal benefits for same-sex partners in the state department
  • Oppose the Boy Scouts’ discriminatory policies against LGBT and atheist members
